The Surgical Technician is an allied health professional who is an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patient populations such as neonates (birth-28 days), children (1 month - 14 years), adolescents (15-17 years), adults (19-70 years), and geriatric ( over 70 years). Functions under the supervision of a surgeon or registered nurse to ensure that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique that combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation of tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
Experience Requirements :
Previous Surgical Technician experience preferred.
Education Required :
High School graduate or GED equivalent required. Completion of post-secondary education program in Surgical Technology -or- one year of experience in the OR as a Surgical Technician may serve as a substitute for completion of post-secondary education program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements :
Certification as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
