Job summary

Work on a new project as part of an overall entitlements initiative. The Red Hat Entitlements Engineering team is looking for a Senior Quality Engineer with a passion for open source software to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you'll need to have outstanding technical and communication skills and experience with Python or other object-oriented technology. You'll also need to be comfortable working in an agile, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Help define and implement automated test strategies, methodologies, processes, and procedures

  • Investigate and recommend test infrastructure tools to support the quality engineering methodology, process, and procedures

  • Work with other Quality Engineering (QE) team members to architect and implement automated functional testing with various platforms that the Entitlements portfolio integrates with, including Red Hat Satellite, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and various VMware technologies like vCenter

  • Analyze source code of our offerings and work with development counterparts to propose appropriate test strategies for subsystems of our offerings

  • Develop automated tests in accordance with your team’s policies and process

  • Create offering-wide test plans and strategies

  • Oversee the work of other quality engineers within an offering

  • Participate in and contribute to weekly team meetings

  • Interact with external partners and customers regarding testing strategies and results

  • Schedule and guide reviews with management and senior technical leadership

  • Provide an accurate and timely status of testing efforts and quality metrics to the broader project team

  • Plan and implement testing automation jobs and pipelines using a continuous integration (CI) system

Required skills

  • Experience testing web-based applications, preferably through a REST API

  • Experience with solutions like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, or OpenShift by Red Hat

  • Familiarity with various deployment models including cloud, virtualization, and containers

  • Experience with GitHub, GitLab, or other collaborative code forges

  • Passion for open source technologies; previous experience with open source communities and development is a plus

  • Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills

  • Understanding of quality assurance and engineering concepts

  • Understanding of the Python programming language

  • Practical experience using the Linux operating system including Bash scripting

  • Fluent written and verbal language skills in English

  • Knowledge of CI systems like Jenkins or Travis

The following are considered a plus:

  • Understanding of the Ruby programming language

  • Familiarity with open source automation tools

  • Familiarity with free and open source software

  • Experience with a variety of bug tracking systems

  • Understanding of advanced networking concepts

  • Red Hat certifications like Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Red Hat Certified Virtualization Administrator (RHCVA), or Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA)

  • Experience performing web UI automation using Selenium

  • Experience planning and implementing testing automation jobs and pipelines using Jenkins as the CI system

  • Experience writing Ansible by Red Hat or similar technologies

  • Understanding of various subscriptions modules, including cloud-based subscription
